Young Riders Finish First and Second at CCI 1* Colorado Horse Park Three-Day Event
June 19, 2008
Ottawa, ON --- Canadian Eventing Young Riders Julia Norman, 17, of Kelowna, BC, and Marissa Wolfe, also 17, of Pitt Meadows, BC, placed first and second in the CCI 1* division of the Colorado Horse Park Three-Day Event. The competition took place May 29–June 1, 2008 in Parker, Colorado, US.
Norman, and her horse Sauvignon, a 17-year-old Canadian thoroughbred gelding, were in fourth place following dressage with a score of 56.8 penalties. Posting fault-free performance over the cross-country course designed by David O’Connor and a perfectly clean show jumping round and Norman quickly moved to the top of the standings, finishing on her dressage score.
“The cross-country was very flowing. It was really well designed making it not too challenging or too easy,” remarked Norman, who started riding at the age of eight and eventing four years ago. “We are going to train at The Fork in Norwood North Carolina with Rebecca Howard to prepare for the North American Young Riders Championships. We are working towards completing a two-star in the fall.”
Finishing just points behind Norman was Marissa Wolfe and The Maestro, her 12-year-old Canadian Thoroughbred gelding. Leading the division following dressage, the pair scored a clear cross country performance but fell to second place after two unlucky rails in show jumping to place on score of 57.3.
Also finishing in the top ten with a clear cross-country performance was Kathryn Morgan of Surrey, BC, and her horse Official Plan, a nine-year-old American Thoroughbred gelding. The pair earned a dressage score of 55.4, and added 12 show jumping penalties to finish in eighth place with a score of 67.4.
