The Scotia Bank Cup - Continental Kick Off

Spruce Meadows

June 11, 2008

Calgary, AB --- The Scotia Bank Cup was the opening day of the “Continental” Tournament. Thirty-four entries jumped the course designed by Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) and only three made their way to the jump-off.

First into the jump-off were Norman Dello Joio (USA) and his gelding Malcolm. Dello Joio put together a clean round and set the time to beat at 50.02 seconds. Looking to beat that time, Enrique Gonzalez (MEX) took an aggressive approach which cost him four faults early in his round and put him and his mount Centinaio 2 out of contention for 1st place. With his fate in his own hands Yann Candele (FRA) rode into the ring last. Candele, and his gelding Rivendell, rode the course very fast with a end time of 49.88 seconds, enough for first place in the Scotia Bank Cup.
