2008 Wachovia Showplace Spring Spectacular II Offers Full Schedule and Classics for Hunters

June 10, 2008

Wayne, IL --- The Wachovia Showplace Spring Spectacular II Horse Show will be held at the Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, IL, on June 17-22, 2008. The show offers a full schedule of divisions and classics with great prize money for hunter exhibitors.

The Wachovia Showplace Spring Spectacular offers five rings of competitions and hunters are the focus in three of those. The highlight for people who love watching top hunter competition comes early in the week. The $10,000 ASG Software Solutions/USHJA International Hunter Derby, presented by Dietrich Insurance, featuring Walsh Harness and Saddlery, is one of the most exciting competitions. It will be held on Tuesday, June 17, at 12 p.m.

This special class is held for High Performance Hunters and features two rounds of competition over specially-made jumps. Reminiscent of jumps set on a fox hunting field, these international hunter derbies require horses and riders to tackle natural obstacles and varying terrain, and specifications of the class include natural fences and elements such as coops, stone walls, ditches, brush and gates, set between 3’6” and 4 feet. This class is one of a series held at different horse shows across the country, from Hawaii to Pennsylvania.

On Wednesday, June 18, competition for professional hunters, children’s pony hunters, and green pony hunters begins. Their divisions finish and will be awarded prizes and championships on Thursday, June 19. The $1,000 Pre-Green Hunter Classic, sponsored by Messenger Hill, will be the highlight in Ring 4 on Thursday. Following the class, there will be a presentation for the Jeff Katz Memorial High Point Trophy from Messenger Hill and Jodi Vasquez. Thursday will also host the $1,000 Children’s Pony Hunter Classic.

There are three hunter classics on the schedule for Friday, June 20. The junior hunters begin their competition and will compete in the $1,000 Junior Hunter Classic, sponsored by Meadowview Farm and Tammy Provost. The Children’s Hunters will have the opportunity to ride for $2,500 in prize money in the Marshall and Sterling Classic. The Pony Hunter Classic, sponsored by Palladia Farms, will award $1,000 in prize money.

Saturday, June 21, is a big day for hunters. In the main hunter ring, there will be presentations for the High Point Junior Hunter Trophy and the Overall High Point Junior Hunter Rider Trophy for the two weeks of the Spring Spectacular. Both are sponsored by the Hope Family. The $2,500 Junior/Amateur-Owner Hunter Classic, sponsored by Ashley Hill and Forest Hill Farms, will run later in the day. In Ring 4, the $2,500 Marshall and Sterling Adult Hunter Classic is sponsored by Copper Ridge Farms Inc. The last class of the day in Ring 4 is the $2,500 NAL Children’s Hunter Classic, sponsored by Roy and Paula May for the Scleroderma Foundation. The pony hunters will have another chance at prize money in the $2,500 Pony Hunter Classic.

Wrapping up the week on Sunday, June 22, there are six more hunter classics, including the $1,000 Modified Adult and $1,000 Modified Children’s Hunter Classics, the $2,500 NAL Adult Hunter Classic sponsored by Runaway Farm and The Carroll Family, the Short Stirrup Hunter Classic sponsored by Saddlers Row, the $1,000 Novice Adult Hunter Classic sponsored by Saddlers Row, and the $1,000 Novice Children’s Hunter Classic sponsored by Saddlers Row. On Sunday, there are also hunter breeding classes for yearlings, two year olds, and three year olds. The Best Young Horse Award will be presented and is sponsored by the American Warmblood Registry.
